Goleta Offers Emergency Response Training

This summer, the Goleta Prepare Now initiative will offer free community emergency response team (CERT) training to Goleta residents. The CERT program, which was developed and implemented by the Los Angeles Fire Department in 1985, educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic response skills, such as light search and rescue, basic fire safety, disaster psychology, first aid, and terrorism preparedness.

The CERT course, led by local firefighters, first responders, and volunteers, will consist of eight classes, each ending with a mock-disaster drill, designed to test the participants’ grasp of the day’s lesson.

The classes, which will begin on July 8 and conclude on August 19, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Goleta Valley Community Center. For more information or to register for the CERT course, click here.
