The Santa Barbara County Public Works Department and the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), are scheduled to begin construction of the second phase of El Colegio Road improvements. The project limits extend along El Colegio Road between Stadium Drive and Camino Corto.

The project is funded by the Santa Barbara County Redevelopment Agency, UCSB, and the Santa Barbara County Goleta Transportation Improvement Plan. Cost of the project is $2,240,765.70.

Motorists in the area can expect traffic delays up to 20 minutes. The department encourages the motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to be aware of reduced speed zones and traffic controls throughout the construction site. If possible, motorists should seek alternative routes.

El Colegio Improvement Project Phase II includes reconstructing the road’s cross slope, and continuing the four-lane road improvements from Los Carneros to the existing four-lane segment, west of Camino Corto.

The contract for El Colegio Road Improvements Project Phase II was awarded to Granite Construction Company.

Construction is scheduled to begin June 14, 2010, and is expected to be completed by February, 2011, with construction hours scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting. The County Public Works Department will administer and inspect the project.

The Public Works Department wishes to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during the construction of this important roadway safety and improvement project.
