Dos Pueblos Comedy Night
NBC Sitcom Star Hosts Evening of Laughs at High School
Hilarity, in the form of a former student, was delivered to Dos Pueblos High School on February 19.
In its first annual “Comedy Night,” DPHS hosted alum Josh Duvendeck (now of NBC’s Parks and Recreation) for an improv-inundated evening. Along with his USC-born comedy troupe Trustfall, Duvendeck provided laughter to 370-something DPHS students, and their parents.
With an introductory performance courtesy of DPHS’s own improv group, Trustfall — composed of USC alums Duvendeck, Daniel Acker, Jessica Perlman, and Jimmy Fowlie — launched into its own. With acts titled “Interrogation” and “Academy Award Moment” to “Pimp Out” and “Big Dump,” Trustfall encouraged the audience’s participation, allowing the students (and occasionally their parents) to suggest act themes.
The night’s third course offered both Duvendeck and Acker the opportunity to showcase their budding stand-up talents. While Acker riffed on the term “potential” and the confusing popularity of vampires, Duvendeck waxed poetic on Jewish mothers (he knows from personal experience) and pirates (no experience suggested).
Despite a few jokes deemed more college-worthy — as evidenced by eyebrows-raised parents — the evening proved successful, according to PTSA president Denice Fellows.
“[The PTSA] were pleased with the attendance on a night where we had a number of sporting events. I think we are planning on doing this event again next year,” Fellows said.
