TOP SPORTING EVENTS: AUGUST 30-SEPTEMBER 5

The 2010 home opener for the UCSB women’s volleyball team – and the Gauchos’ only home match for the next month – will take place tonight (Monday, August 30) at Robertson Gym. Cincinnati will take on the Gauchos in the 7 p.m. match.

UCSB went 1-1 at the Cal Molten Classic in Berkeley last weekend. Cal’s Golden Bears, ranked No. 11 in the nation, swept the Gauchos by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 28-26. The Gauchos rebounded with a sweep of Manhattan College (25-19, 25-9 and 25-19). Senior Charlene DeHoog led UCSB’s scoring with 11 kills and two solo blocks.

After tonight, the Gaucho women will hit the road for three tournaments and two Big West matches. Their next home match will be October 1 against Long Beach State.
