Persistent Commuters

There was reference to 30,000 daily commuters to Santa Barbara at a recent city council meeting, but that’s not correct. [Hoist by El Perro’s Petard, 8/5/10.] According to the staff of the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, there are 29,000 commuters to the entire South Coast from outside it. Of those about 16,000 commute to the City of Santa Barbara.

Increased density in the city of Santa Barbara is not expected to take any existing commuters off the 101 freeway. It is expected to make it possible for a greater portion of workers filling new jobs in the city to be able to live in it.
