Like Earth Day, the UCSB’s Environmental Studies Program is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this week. Born out of the same tidal wave of earth-minded awareness that foamed up in the wake of the historic 1969 oil spill in the Santa Barbara Channel, UCSB’s esteemed ES program is one of the longest running of its kind in the country. The anniversary will be observed on 4/24 as part of a day-long symposium on the subject at the university featuring a gathering of alumni, prominent environmental speaker panels, and a dinner event in the evening.
