Santa Barbara High and Dos Pueblos are loaded for another high-pitched girls volleyball showdown at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 29) at DP’s Sovine Gym.

Both teams are defending champions – the host Chargers went undefeated in winning the Channel League crown last year, but they lost to league rival Santa Barbara in the CIF finals. The Dons held the top spot on the CIF Division II coaches’ poll this week, while the Chargers are No. 2.

Dos Pueblos brings an 8-1 record into the match. The Chargers have swept seven opponents. Their only loss was to defending state champion Archbishop Mitty in four games at Mitty’s tournament in San Jose. Santa Barbara (7-2) has been playing well under pressure, winning four five-set matches.

Another highlight of the week in sports is the nationally televised (Fox Soccer Channel) rematch between UCSB and Indiana, the NCAA soccer finalists in 2004. Indiana won the national title, its seventh, on penalty kicks. The Hoosiers will face the Gauchos at 8 p.m. Friday at Harder Stadium.

Tickets can be purchased online (ucsbgauchos.com), by phone (893-UCSB) or at the ticket office in the UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics Building. There are free parking spaces outside the building next to Robertson Gym.
