Santa Barbara police have arrested a man and are searching for a woman in connection with an instance of alleged forgery.
According to a report on the matter, a man and woman entered the Mi Fiesta convenience store, located at 833 North Milpas Street, around 4:30 p.m. on September 12. The woman asked to cash a check from the Select Staffing temp agency. Having received counterfeit Select Staffing checks in the past, the store clerk attempted to verify the woman’s Mexico ID card. This prompted both the woman and the man to flee. The clerk caught only the man.
The man initially told police that he did not know the woman. Upon investigating the matter, however, police found that he too had a check from Select Staffing as well as another Mexico ID card. A phone number written on his check matched the woman’s check. The man eventually admitted that both ID cards were counterfeit. His identity has not yet been verified. The 55-year-old was booked into jail under the name on the bogus ID card, Jose Luis Martinez, on charges of forgery, possession of a counterfeit ID card, burglary, and giving police a false name.

What a poorly written article. Why write three words when one suffices? “…in connection with an instance of alleged forgery.”Or you could say “…in connection with an alleged forgery.” “According to a report on the matter…” would be “According to a report”. Are the reporters paid by the word? Brevity is important to readers and makes for good reporting. “…police found that he too had a check from Select Staffing and well as another Mexico ID card.” And well as”? Is that proper English? Sounds funny, maybe you meant "as well as".

intheknow--why don't you just apply to be a reporter. that would be much more productive and lucrative than your current role as unpaid grouch and self-proclaimed editor

Intheknow seems to be on a mission to discredit the Independent today. Perhaps they are a troll from that other Santa Barbara newspaper (if you can call it that) who is bored because they ran out of tabloid stories on Google to cut and paste.

No, I'm just one person that appreciates people that do a job correctly. But thanks for taking time out of your busy day to comment on my post, I'm touched.

yeah, and actually you are a real dumb ass too mr. or ms. intheknow...you write:
"No, I'm just one person that appreciates people that do a job correctly. But thanks for taking time out of your busy day to comment on my post, I'm touched."
if you are an animal (human being) you are a "who" who appreciates people...rather that a "that" - "thats" refer to inatimate objects - so i guess that make you either a mineral or a vegetable...hmmmm...likewise, i think you were trying to say you appreciate other people "who" do a job correctly. something you apparently aren't able to accomplish despite your mean-spirited expressions of self-grandeur.
I agree with Num - you probably work for the News Press and that's what's making you so bitter.
lighten up.

You go on a tirade about my post and end with the sentence, “I agree with Num - you probably work for the News Press and that's what's making you so bitter.” Really? Hmm you seem a lil bit retarded, just my opinion. Check my history, I’ve been here a lot longer than you kid.

I'm 78 and have been here for 78 years. Guess I win and you look foolish. Thanks for playing. And your use of insults shows your true age, I peg you to be about 12, or at least you write like it.
