Santa Barbara High’s J.R. Richards Gym will be the site of tonight’s (Tuesday, Oct. 27) second act of the ultra-competitive girls volleyball rivalry between the Dos Pueblos Chargers and Santa Barbara Dons. Match time is 6:30 p.m.

Dos Pueblos ascended to No. 1 in the CIF rankings after staving off Santa Barbara in five games (23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-13) on the Chargers’ home court a month ago. The Dons dropped to No. 2 and have stayed there, awaiting tonight’s rematch.

The two teams could see each other again in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions this weekend. Archbishop Mitty, the only team to knock off Dos Pueblos this year, will be making an appearance. The San Jose school has the state’s No. 1 team, while the Chargers are No. 2, having proven themselves the best in the Southland by winning the California Challenge in San Diego earlier this month. DP senior Karly Wopat was named the CalHiSports Girls State Athlete of the Week for her MVP performance in the tournament.

There are two noteworthy soccer games at UCSB’s Harder Stadium. This afternoon (3 p.m.), the Westmont College women face The Master’s in a Golden State Athletic Conference match. Jameisha Washington of Westmont was named the GSAC offensive player of the week after she scored goals in the Warriors’ last two victories.

On Wednesday (7 p.m.), the nationally ranked UCSB men’s soccer team takes on Cal State Northridge, which upset the Gauchos 1-0 in a Big West match 10 days ago.
