Where: 1031 State St., 963-6687, sbaldos.com.

What: Aldo’s serves lunch and dinner daily, inspired by the cuisine of Italy and Santa Barbara’s seafood.

How Much: Dinner pastas $14.95-$19.95, osso bucco $23.95, salads $11.95 full/$6.95 half.

The Dish: Aldo’s Italian Restaurant is charmingly situated on State Street in a building that dates back to the Janssens-Orella Adobe (1857) and is a city landmark in the National Register of Historic Places. Al fresco dining is largely popular at the lunch and dinner spot, whose outdoor patio is spacious, heated, and offers sidewalk tables. Classically inspired decor covers the walls of the indoor dining room, where patrons can enjoy a large selection of Italian specialties served in ample portions. Seafood from the area plays a large part of the menu, with mussels, calamari, shrimp, mahi mahi, and daily specials appearing on both the lunch and dinner menus. Lunch options range from half salads to full pizzas to linguini seafood served with a choice of marinara or Alfredo sauce. Dinner steps it up a notch, offering a large selection of pastas, cioppino, eggplant dishes, and veal osso bucco (on Saturday nights only). Aldo’s is a solid choice for Italian comfort food and an outdoor street-side downtown meal.
