I would like to add some omitted facts to Marian Shapiro's In Memoriam article about George Tiller's life and "achievements." Ms. Shapiro states that in Kansas, "late abortions are only done if the mother's life is endangered by continuing the pregnancy or if the fetus is severely deformed." Unfortunately, Ms. Shapiro's account of the law differs from the Kansas law.
According to the Associated Press (AP): Kansas law allows abortions on viable fetuses after the 21st week if carrying the pregnancy to term would endanger the mother's life or cause a "substantial and irreversible impairment" of a major bodily function. Courts have interpreted a "major bodily function" to include mental health. Can the mental health impact be determined before the pregnancy is carried out? How can it be compared to the mental health problems encountered by the patient from having the abortion?
Ms. Shapiro attacks Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, saying he "infuriates” her. His opinion is based on an AP report that was omitted from her article: In 2004, Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline gained access to patient records from two abortion clinics, including Tiller's. On December 22, 2006, Kline filed 30 misdemeanor charges against Tiller alleging illegal late-term abortions. The judge dismissed the charges the next day on "jurisdictional grounds." For the record, I do not condone the killing of Mr. Tiller or of any viable life for that manner. — Phil Cucchiarelli

Why did it take "Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline" 2 years to file charges?

It would seem that some mental health impacts are pretty obvious. Like the mental health impact on a 9-yr-old of having her grandfather's baby. Do you seriously think the child would have a normal life after that? either child - the one birthing or the one being birthed. Get real. Get a heart, and a life!
