The Santa Barbara Public Library System’s adult literacy program is holding a free training course to prepare volunteers to work as tutors at all branch libraries. Adult literacy tutors provide one-on-one assistance to English-speaking adults, and work with them to improve their reading, writing, and spelling skills
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, must read and speak English proficiently, and must have between two and four hours per week to devote to the program. The training course is mandatory for new volunteers, and provides information about the program, tutoring techniques, and free materials.
The next course will be held on Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Santa Barbara Public Library, 40 East Anapamu Street.
For more information or to register for the training class, call (805) 564-6619, email bschwartzberg@santabarbaraca.gov, or visit the library’s Web site at sbplibrary.org.
