For the past month, the S.B. community has been generously depositing unwrapped toys in special boxes located at businesses on State Street. On Wednesday, December 16, at 10 a.m., Santa Claus will drive his bus downtown to collect those toys, which will then go to the children (infants to 11 years) of the low-income families living at Peoples’ Self-Help Housing affordable properties. Volunteers are needed to help sort and wrap the presents from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. “Peoples’ Self-Help Housing’s Stuff the Bus campaign collects and distributes holiday gifts for 600 low-income kids,” said Jeanette Duncan, the organization’s executive director. “For many of these children, this is the only gift that they receive at this time of year.” The toys will be delivered later the same afternoon. For more information about donating new toys or gift cards, or volunteering, call Monica Iverson at Peoples’ Self-Help Housing at 962-5152 x220, or email monicai@pshhc.org.
