Beginning 8/3, responsibility for Minuteman III parts stored at Vandenberg Air Force Base for occasional unarmed test launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles came under the auspices of North Dakota’s Minot Air Force Base. Commanders indicated Minot’s nuclear weapons-trained unit is better suited to manage the storage area than Vandenberg’s space operations unit.
