• April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and this year, it is also the 40th anniversary of S.B.’s Child Abuse Listening and Mediation (CALM). The nonprofit organization-which works to teach children their rights, support prevention programs, and break the intergenerational cycle of abuse-currently is seeking volunteers to help continue its efforts in our community. Call 965-2376 for more info.

• Next week, the Junior League of S.B., in conjunction with the National Marrow Donor Program, is hosting a bone marrow registration drive to help fight a dramatic shortfall in the number of registered bone marrow donors on the local and national levels. All that is required of potential bone marrow donors-whose donations may help treat individuals with serious illnesses like Hodgkin’s disease-is the completion of a short consent form and a quick swab on the inside of the mouth. The Junior League registration drive will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at De la Guerra Plaza (E. De la Guerra St., between State and Anacapa sts.). Call 559-917-7999 for more info.
