Insurers Set Up Tents at Evac Center
State Farm Insurance agent Greg Sherlock said that as the nation’s largest insurer, his company tries always to be second on the scene when an emergency evacuation center is set up-right after the Red Cross. As of 11 a.m., stationed in a tent at San Marcos High School he had filed 10 claims arising from the Tea Fire; other insurers are also on hand. Fire insurance is generally part of homeowners’ insurance, and is in place virtually every time a home is bought or sold; most banks will not finance a home without it. Wildfires are covered, Sherlock said.
