The Warriors/Warriors game the Poodle recalls [No Dogs Need Apply] might have been one of several. Between 1987 and 1991 the Carp Warriors played the Tehachapi Warriors four times in CIF football championship games. The "Coastal" Warriors prevailed over the "Inland" Warriors in the series with 3 wins, no losses, one tie.

My bet would be that none of the board members who voted to eliminate the Warrior mascot were at any of those games, and that the two who voted to retain the icon were sitting in the booster section at most of them.

Sensitivity issues aside, I think the Angry Poodle is on the right track. These folks merit some condolences because they had no idea that they were walking into a tornado.

I think the CIF should re-organize and create a new division in Southern

California exclusively for teams with names that might be offensive or

promote stereotypes. The natural match ups might bring huge, partisan crowds. For example:

    (Carpinteria) Warriors vs. Warriors (Tehachapi)
