Most of the reasons that Rep. Caps gives for supporting Barack Obama [Capps Endorses Obama]are intangible, schoolgirl crush type reasons that have no bearing in substance. Why not just say you support him because he likes stickers, ponies, Hannah Montana, and MySpace. Appealing to the better angels of our nature? Really? That’s your reason? And just how does that translate into cutting my taxes? Making school affordable? Living in a county where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer? I am so tired of representatives giving us these strange answers on why they support people. I want real policy details, not vague ideas of inspiration. When will privileged people like you (Rep. Capps) realize that talking to our “better angels” and being bombarded with “hope” says nothing to us about our lives. It may work for young people or the well off, but not for the family struggling to put food on the table. Happy talk does not translate into anything meaningful in the long run. If you (Rep. Capps) are going to represent the Central Coast, which many economically struggling people call home, then please find better reasons to back a candidate. Those you have given are a bit embarrassing for someone in your position, I would think.

This is nothing new. Hannah-Beth Jackson told me when I called into the Paul Berenson show that all things being equal, she was supporting Hillary Clinton because it was time to have a woman president.

I pointed out to Jackson that even though I'm not a Democrat, (or Republican for that matter) that Dennis Kucinich interested me because I perceived him to be a person of principle and because he was speaking out against NAFTA, GATT, and because unlike Clinton, he was opposed to the war FROM THE BEGINNING. (I guess he somehow had some magic powers that enabled him to see through what anti-war opponents refer to as Bush's lie while Clinton and John Kerry couldn't see this) Interestingly enough, Jackson said she too was against the war from the beginning, but that" all things being equal..." the problem is, all things aren't equal.

As for Obama, I remember his quote from last June's debate "Everybody is going to learn to speak English if they live in this country. The issue is not whether or not future generations of immigrants are going to learn English." Hmm, EVERYBODY??? So when will this happen?...many have lived in this country for years or decades and don't speak the language. I think Obama is a little out of touch with the real world.

Here is the link with a video to that quote if you think I'm making that up. http://glassbooth.org/explore/index/bara...

McCain, Obama, and Clinton: That's who the American people think are the best people for the job. OK, if they say so!

On the other hand, I've always had the feeling that many dislike Clinton simply because she is a woman.

America hasn't come as far as it would like to think it has. Prejudice or patronzing...both bad.

Men and their macho hormones have messed up everything. Can we hope Hillary Clinton would bring a woman's intelligence and perspective to domestic and international affairs? I don't know, she seems so 'establishment,' but I'd rather take my chances with her, try something new. She might really care about health care reform, education, peace on earth. ... Anyway, it looks like Obama will be our 'man.' We'd better hope he can do the right job. happy mother's day.

Bonghit: While I don't plan on voting for McCain, Obama or Hillary, at this point I'd vote for her if there were no other choices so on that note I agree with you. What I don't agree with you about is your gender assessment. It's not about men and hormomes but about human beings and their big egos. After all, who is the person causing all the strife at the News-Press and who was at war with the Falklands back in 1982? Let's also not forget that Hillary voted for this war while Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul were against it.

Both genders and all races have proven that if they are given power, they generally abuse it.
