Yahoo!Santa Barbara police today arrested 44-year-old Paul Babich after he allegedly attempted to take a car from the parking lot of the Santa Barbara County administration building at the corner of Anacapa and Anapamu streets. According to police reports, Babich was intoxicated to the point that he struck five parked cars and a pole while attempting to exit the parking lot. Those working in the building saw what was happening and called the police, who arrived at the scene just before noon. According to police reports, Babich found an unlocked car that had keys in it. He was arrested by Officer Paul Kamin on charges of auto theft, hit and run, driving while intoxicated, and driving with a suspended license.
