The City Council may adopt an Israeli technology to convert its municipal trash supply into energy. The council requires the potential contract winner to convert 100,000 tons of trash during its first year of operation and more than double that capacity in 10 years. In addition, it must divert no less than 60 percent of all materials now going into the Tajiguas landfill-by weight, not volume.
