Winemaker dinners are so ubiquitous in Santa Barbara they can make the most dedicated oenophile jaded. But then something like this one comes along. On February 8 the Los Olivos Café’s Valentine Lovers of the Vine event will feature the stellar wines of Bruno D’Alfonso of DiBruno and Badge Wines and Kris Curran of Curran Wines. (In breaking news, Curran has just been appointed winemaker at Foley Estates Vineyard and Winery.) We’re talking wines as big and bold as these winemakers’ personalities. Five wines, five gourmet courses — love will be guaranteed for at least the contents of your glass and plate, if not the person you’re sitting with (as Food Editor I can only promise you so much). Sure it seems early to reserve, especially if you don’t even have a date lined up. But if you ask anyone to go to this and they know anything about the region’s wines, you’ll be sure to get a yes. And if they don’t know D’Alfonso’s and Curran’s wines, you don’t want to be with them anyway.
