Chocolate this good doesn’t really need to be art, too, but we’re talking some beautiful bonbons here. There’s the one shaped like a perfectly puckered, artfully lip-sticked mouth; another seemingly gilded; a third a seemingly lacquered yellow. Even stranger, the “here” is Carpinteria in a row of warehouse buildings right next to the Carpinteria Wine Company — talk abut your tastefully indulgent one-stop shopping. Jean-Michel Carré, chocolatier, whips up so many delectable treats — from a Sichuan pepper/orange truffle to a pain d’épices that features orange zest and spice bread-flavored dark and milk chocolate ganache on top of a spiced bread slice, covered with dark chocolate — any sweet tooth will be sated. And of course want more.
