Libby

Around The Independent, certain jobs are treated like the proverbial hot potato, and the yearly compiling of the wedding listings is right up there with the worst. So, last summer, when Shannon Kelley Gould made the acquaintance of Libby Sallaberry, a 22-year-old senior at the University of Missouri currently majoring in journalism, and Libby asked if The Indy ever takes interns, Shannon pounced. Come her winter break, Libby made the trek westward and tackled the pages and pages of listings like a pro. She found Santa Barbara “beautiful and relaxed,” the listings “tedious,” and the people at The Independent “funny; they talk about funny things, like I learned all about Barack Obama’s closet smoking.” Pictured here with her inflatable husband, a soft-spoken Irish immigrant in need of a green card, Libby isn’t sure where her post-grad life will take her. “I hope to move to New York and get a job. Any job.”
