The Biltmore has loosened its black tie and is offering lounge lizards its innovative Cocktail Flight Nights, every Wednesday in the Ty Lounge. On a recent Wednesday, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., the bar served up a gorgeous holder with three ounce-and-a-half cocktails exquisitely garnished (as any fine drink should be). Each week features a different premium liquor as a base. February 6 featured Chopin vodka — which, coincidently, had just sponsored endless SBIFF soirees — and the star drink of that week’s trio of Pomtini, Pear Drop, and White Grape Delight was the middle offering, rich with fresh pear juice and none of a pear’s gritty texture. It’s hard not to feel swell at a marble-topped bar as the sun, ever a proper guest, sinks elegantly over Butterfly Beach. Plus, there are complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and not just the tasty almonds but, for our visit, a flavor bomb tuna tartare, quail egg, caviar, horseradish chip combo. On February 27, you can “Leap into Spring” with 10 Cane Rum cocktails.

4•1•1

Cocktail Flight Nights are at the Ty Lounge in the Four Seasons Biltmore Resort, located at 1260 Channel Dr. Call 969-2261.
