Au Courant:

Blue-light (but big-label) special: Stylephiles saddled with champagne taste/beer budget syndrome need no longer shelve their label lust. With the launch of S.B.-based Label Spree.com, shoppers can score the designer duds they crave without wreaking havoc on their credit scores-discounts range anywhere from 31-70 percent. Select a designer or category and then search by size, thus circumventing the pesky consumerist version of blue balls that so often befalls online sale shoppers. If the item of your desire remains too rich for your bankbook, tag it and then watch for daily updates letting you track the price as it slides ever lower until it lands safely within the confines of your comfort zone.

Ralph Lauren Purple Label

Big buzz from the beehive: On September 23, Blue Bee Men (923 State St.) will launch a new Ralph Lauren shop-in-shop that will feature several of the style icon’s most exclusive brands, including Polo Ralph Lauren, RRL, Ralph Lauren Black Label, and select pieces from the Ralph Lauren Purple Label collection. And this is all quite a coup: the RRL line in particular is only carried in 12 stores nationwide, but the American vintage, denim-inspired line is a perfect fit for the S.B. fashion empire.

One Feisty space: J7 Surfboards and Feisty bikini designer Jason Feist is even busier than usual these days; he’s putting the finishing touches on his soon-to-be-unveiled 1,100-square-foot retail space, J.seven (24 E. Cota St.), which Feist and his two partners, Sean O’Connor and Tarik Khashoggi, have been hastily remodeling since April. The custom surfboard shop aims to focus on the surfer/shaper relationship, but will also offer a complete line of stock surfboards and accessories, as well as local clothing brands and a stylish selection of beach lifestyle-inspired clothing for both men and women. Their fingers are crossed for a soft opening by the end of the month-and ours are, too.

Jill of All Trades

Billed as “An Event for Crafty Women to Showcase Their Creations,” Kenny Osehan and Chris Sewell of the Presidio Motel (1620 State St.) have put together what promises to be an epic day of femme-focused You-Can’t-Get-This-On-State-Street-style shopping. The pair, who has managed the mid-State Street motel for two-and-a-half years, has worked hard to turn it into a funky oasis for art-minded folks, featuring artwork in the rooms and playing host to art shows, live music, and benefits. For Jill of all Trades, which will take place on Saturday, September 29, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Osehan and Sewell have scoured the state to overwhelming response, and plan to bring us (lucky shoppers that we are) the best of the best. The event will feature a solid selection of 45 progressive clothing, jewelry, and accessory designers from Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, set up in the motel’s front and back parking lots. Although clearly conceived with Jills in mind, Jacks are welcome, too. And even the non-shoppers of the world (I’m told there are some) will have plenty of reasons to stop by: live bands, deejays, live painting by select artists, massages, mani-pedis, and food should keep them occupied while stylephiles get busy doing what they do best.

Next Tuesday, September 25, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., dressed (1253 Coast Village Rd., Montecito) will host a fashion event of epic proportions: a Stella McCartney trunk show. And, in keeping with McCartney’s enviro-friendly ethos, dressed will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Community Environmental Council, and will also use the platform to introduce some organic and sustainable designers next door at ready. : Whether you’re a bad kitty or a pussycat doll, Halloween’s the time to pretend you’re something else, and, if the fit-specialists-cum-costume-designers at Purrmission (18 W. Calle Laureles) have anything to do with it, something naughty. Call 898-1241 to get an invite to the upcoming girls-only Halloween costume preview (date TBD), and don’t say I didn’t warn you. : 7 for all Mankind has installed its first in-shop concept area at denim mecca Blue Bee Jeans (913 State St.), and word is that 7 is planning a seventh anniversary party at the shop, which, it so happens, is also celebrating its seventh birthday. 7-7-7: That’s sure to be a lucky trifecta-and one hell of a party. Stay tuned.

Check Out: Yellowstone

The store-billed as a place “for those who desire vintage luxury”-has a cachet all its own, and it’s easy to see why. Yellowstone-which originally boasted an Isla Vista address and is currently located at 527 State Street-has been around since the ’70s, and though owners Stephanie and Paul Haugen are understandably tight-lipped about where they score their consistently epic merchandise, the goods speak for themselves. And, like the merchandise, Yellowstone seems to do nothing but get better with age. Here’s why you should check it out:

1) The racks and racks of vintage dresses. Whether you’re lusting for polyester or silk, disco or Jackie O., you’re sure to find something that’ll have your mouth watering.

2) Mesh hats, belt buckles, and, oh, the T-shirts (hello, Shaun Cassidy!). But it’s not all kitsch. High-waisted pants and Lacoste are on-trend and on the racks.

3) The juicy historical tidbits you may stumble upon should you ask the right question. Exhibit A: What’s the story behind that picture of Yellowstone’s original owner, Jim, and Mick Jagger?
