The Santa Barbara County Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission ruled that the project in the meadow of the Botanic Garden was not exempt from its review. The commission also decided that despite earlier county staff approval of the 4,025-square-foot terrace, the project shouldn’t have been allowed because of a substantial deviation from the historical design concept of the garden. The commission will work with the garden to develop a plan for the area, starting with the Planning Commission hearing next week.
