It’s not enough for Chrystal and Steve Clifton, the dynamic team behind Palmina (palminawines.com), to make killer Italian-style wines in the Lompoc wine ghetto. Just their Alisos blend-mostly sangiovese and all delicious-would make them rightfully beloved. Of late, they seem to be everywhere-they were the feature of the gourmand’s favorite Dean & DeLuca’s e-newsletter; they’ve got their Red, White & Green Holiday Party coming up on Saturday, December 8, 1-4 p.m.; and now Steve is busy with another side project (for those counting, add this one to Brewer-Clifton, alder, and Ash Hollow): Tritono. One of Steve’s three partners (hence tritono, that devilish musical interval), Joe Bastianich, also makes busy with his other partners Lydia Bastianich (his mom) and Mario Batali (the man who put the Heat in Bill Buford’s bestseller) at 15 restaurants. Third partner Mat-as Mayol, who might not be a big name here yet, is in Argentina, and this mighty malbec will put him on the map.
