KEYT sports anchor Mike Klan has not been dropped from the station, contrary to widespread rumors and blog reports. Klan, who has been with the station for 12 years, has bronchitis, which is the reason he missed last week’s Friday Football Focus, according to news director Jim Bunner. Klan worked on that show, Bunner said, but didn’t appear on-air because he had lost his voice.
Klan also will be moving from sports to the news desk to become a weekend anchor. Bunner said the move was a mutual decision made by both Klan and station management.
Klan spent most of his time as a sports anchor, with occasional work as a fill-in news anchor. He was a part of the award-winning Friday Football Focus, a weekly fall show centered on comprehensive coverage of the region’s high school football season.
Klan began working at KEYT as an intern after graduating from UCSB. After a year of interning, the station bumped him up to a paid position.

Klan may have agreed to be weekend anchor and a field reporter now, but that does not mean the earlier "blog reports" were wrong. Perhaps the "mutual decision" now means better pay for Klan? What a concept.
Gerry Fall now has to cover, or at least delegate, the Friday Football Focus whirlwind pieces.
KEYT keeps losing its top talent like Orozco, and the remainder of staff get shifted around and around and around. Reporter experience and institutional memory thus leave as well and the quality of the news reporting suffers more, resulting in KEYT rookies looking like they work for a TV news crew in a market less than half this size.
