Two weeks after district officials were forced to lay off some 48 junior high and high school teachers, the Santa Barbara School Board had some good news for many of the recently pink-slipped educators. After additional number crunching in the wake this spring’s massive budget cuts, the district announced on 5/22 that it had scraped together enough dough to bring back all but 13 of the fired teachers. Further, though it is not yet guaranteed, officials expressed hope that the remaining 13 still might have a job in the district next fall once resignations and other personnel shifts are accounted for.
