Raytheon Seeks Solutions to Homemade Bombs
Defense Contractor with Offices in Goleta Seeks to Battle IEDs
The Raytheon Company announced on May 10 that it is seeking partners to help “create innovative solutions” to develop technology for defeating improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
A company news release described IEDs as “the number one killer of service members in the global war on terror.” All of Raytheon’s divisions – including Visioning Systems and Electronic Warfare Systems, both located in Goleta – have been working for the past six months to develop technology for protecting troops from homemade bombs.
“To broaden the scope of the research,” read the announcement, from media relations specialist George Rhynedance, “Raytheon is now inviting potential partners to join the effort by registering solutions and ideas at www.raytheon.com.”
Raytheon, which reported 73,000 employees worldwide and $20.3 billion in sales in 2006, said it will contact the sponsors of “ideas deemed appropriate for further development.”
