Yahoo!Join the Preeclampsia Foundation for a three-mile walkathon this Saturday, May 12. Preeclampsia, closely related to toxemia, affects pregnancy and is a danger to both the mother and the unborn child. Preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders cause approximately 76,000 maternal deaths worldwide each year, affecting at least 5-8 percent of all pregnancies. A progressive disorder, symptoms, while not always present, may include high blood pressure, protein in urine, headache, and sudden weight gain.
All proceeds will go to fund research, raise public and professional awareness, and support and educate those who have been affected by preeclampsia or other hypertensive pregnancy disorders. Support the walk further by collecting pledges and winning incentive prizes, with the convenient use of the online Walk with Me feature to spread the word to friends and family.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Chase Palm Park’s Carousel Plaza with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. Form a team or walk solo by registering online. For more information on the walk, contact Julie Feller at 896-4459.
