Members: Writer/producer Michael McHugh with several guest artists, including Steve Adams, Zach Gill, and Dave Brogan of ALO; pianist Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters; guitarist/vocalist Corey Linberg; and singer Karina Line.

Michael McHugh

Albums: Coyotes & Bourbon (January 2007).

Prior Gigs: SOhO, Legends, James Joyce.

Style: acoustic reggae rock.

Influences: Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Charles Bukowski.

The Skinny: McHugh and his friends took more than a year to record the album he labels as “acoustic groove.” He says, “I look at songwriting as a writing of stories, and I look at this album as a collection of stories. A lot of it is character-based, coming from experiences I’ve had over the last 10 years.” McHugh recently founded Buzzard God Publishing here in Santa Barbara, and is currently working with several musicians, including Corey Linberg, Afro-groove group Ajao, and hip-hop artist Playbac. Fusing his own blend of hip-hop, reggae, Latin, and Afro-beat, McHugh’s lyric-driven story songs are available for free download at santabarbararecords.com.

Upcoming Gigs: Tuesday, June 19, 9:30 p.m., at Zelo. McHugh will also be performing with opening act Ajao.
