The parents of Yoni Gottesman, the four-year-old who drowned two summers ago at the Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the current and past owners of the club. The lawsuit alleges that the athletic club failed to provide its staff adequate with training in lifesaving techniques and that it’s staff was not adequately trained to prevent young children from drowning. An attorney representing the club said the lawsuit was expected and that it contained many inaccuracies and exaggerations. The Gottesman’s attorney, Barry Cappello, had tried to get the District Attorney’s office to file criminal negligence charges against the club, but last year the DA declined to do so.
