For those of you who are not familiar with new technology and what it all means, let’s first start off with some definitions. What is a podcast? According to the Wikipedia, a podcast is a media file that is distributed by subscription (paid or unpaid) over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on mobile devices and personal computers Like radio, it can mean both the content and the method of syndication. The latter may also be termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.

Now that you have learned some new terms, let’s talk about the actual contest itself. The film festival’s official podcasting station hosted a competition where any citizen interested was to tell them in 30 seconds or less or 250 words, why they should be the star citizen journalist for the festival. The winner selected—the podcaster—will get to complete a video interview with a star and later attend an SBIFF after party. Be sure to tune into the station to hear the winner announced.
