Putumayo’s Americana: Impossible to categorize but reflective of our country’s cultural diversity, the musical genre Americana means many things to many people. But this collection by Putumayo — whose partial proceeds go to the Second Harvest food bank network — shows that we should all love it. From the sweaty, raspy blues of Ruthie Foster and sultry vocals of Norah Jones as part of The Little Willies to the old-timey nouveau of Old Crow Medicine Show and sweetness of Carrie Rodriguez and Chip Taylor, this is the perfect chance to get in tune with our own red, white, and blue soundtrack.
