UCSB Responds to Virginia Tech Tragedy
Chancellor Yang Informs Student, Faculty of Available Counseling Services
UCSB Chancellor Henry T. Yang offered students a comforting message last Wednesday, April 18, in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech tragedy.
In an email to students, faculty, and friends, the chancellor expressed his sympathy and support for those grieving with loss, thanked those who participated in a candlelight vigil, and reminded students of resources available for help on campus.
“No matter how well prepared we are, we are not invulnerable,” Yang said. Available help he offered included Counseling Services at (805) 893-4411 and Human Resources Centers at (805) 893-3318.
Yang took time to express UCSB’s safety and emergency response systems. Among them were the school’s Disaster Preparedness Committee, the police department, and student Community Service Officers, who “work together to make our campus as safe a learning and living environment as possible,” Yang said.
The chancellor closed his message with confidence in the Santa Barbara community. “We are a community, and we must take care of each other, not only in the face of large catastrophes, but every day and every minute.”
