According to a search warrant released by the Santa Barbara
Sheriff’s Department last week, 15-year-old Goleta resident Darrick
Hernandez admitted to killing his mother, Tina Keglar of Lompoc,
during his initial interview with investigators in early January.
Keglar’s body, stabbed 45 times, was discovered the morning of
January 3 off the side of Harris Grade Road in Lompoc. Hernandez is
slated to be tried as an adult and is expected to be arraigned on
February 28. Also charged with the murder and accessory after the
fact is Keglar’s live-in boyfriend, Burton Metzger; he is also set
to be arraigned on the 28th.
