Sheron Lenore Stitson became the first cyclist this year to die
in an accident in the City of Santa Barbara. Stitson, who was
homeless, was not wearing a helmet, and died of head injuries after
losing control of her bike under the State Street underpass.
According to the police report, she was traveling fast — at about
19 miles per hour, or 28 feet per second — and passing slower
riders when she lightly bumped another cyclist and fell.
