About the Edelweiss Choir of Santa Barbara
With the impetus of an American who loved German and Austrian music, a mixed choir of 16 voices was born in March 1971. Its original official name was "Gemischter Chor Edelweiss" (mixed choir Edelweiss), which eventually became the "Edelweiss Choir of Santa Barbara".

For a number of years concerts were performed at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara. The Choir was often joined by local vocal and instrumental groups from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and the Music Academy of the West. Over the years concerts are performed together with southern California German, Swiss, and Dutch choirs as well as with guest choirs from many parts of Germany. The Choir has two formal concerts per year (a Spring and a Christmas concert), plus additional singing engagements in convalescent and retirement homes.
