For the first time ever, the Western Division of the American Choral Directors Association will hold its conference here in Santa Barbara February 20-22. That means there will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear world-class choirs in Santa Barbara that have never before performed here--and probably never will again. Professional groups like the Los Angeles Master Chorale (performing a concert in tribute to famed American composer Morten Lauridsen, the conference honoree), England's world-class early music ensemble Alamire, the amazing all-male Camerata Vocale Sine Nomine de Cuba, and the famous a cappella "rock-band" House Jacks.
You can attend any or all of these professional concerts (and we recommend every one of them--why miss any of this exceptional opportunity?) by purchasing single-event passes at the ACDA WD website; Chaucer's Bookstore; Granada Books; or at the FREE pre-conference Welcome Concert at 8pm, Wednesday, 2/19, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church (featuring 4 local choirs).
For information on registering for all or part of the conference, check out the website or go the conference registration desk at The Fess Parker Hotel, which opens at 7pm on Wednesday, 2/19, and stays open throughout the three days. The conference will include a total of 28 outstanding vocal groups and a lot of interesting talks on topics as diverse as "How the English Sing" to "The Evolution of Vocal Jazz Ensemble Repertoire" to "Music of the Muslim World."
