On Wednesday and Thursday, October 30 and 31, 2013, Solvang Parks and Recreation and Buellton Recreation, in partnership with “Solvang Third Wednesday”, will host their 20th Annual “Halloween Haunted House” and this year’s associated “Halloween Street Fest”, which will thrill visitors with food, fun and spirits. The Haunted House and Street Fest, to be held at, and in front of, the Solvang Festival Theater (420 2nd Street), will run from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM both nights, with a kid-friendlier version of the Haunted House running each evening from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Every October, the City of Solvang’s Parks and Recreation Department and Buellton Recreation present the Annual Halloween Haunted House with a new frightful theme; this year’s theme is “The Asylum”. “House guests” are invited to stroll through the asylum’s halls and abandoned rooms “where patients survived in fear of themselves”. Guests are warned to “beware the insanity around every corner and the madness that lingers in every shadow.”
Both nights of Solvang’s “scare fest” will feature food, face painting, games, and for adults 21 years of age and over, a wine and beer garden, lining Solvang’s 2nd Street in front of the Solvang Festival Theater/Haunted House. The festivities on Halloween (October 31) will also include a “Trunk or Treat” – basically, “trick or treating” from parked car-to-car instead of from house-to-house. This year’s party will also, for the first time, feature a Zombie Walk.
Treat options during the Street Fest will include Southern comfort food from Georgia’s Smokehouse food truck, hot dogs from Good2go! Wine Country Food Cart, The Coffee A La Cart food truck, as well as other food vendors offering pizza, popcorn, churros, tamales, and more. On-lookers hoping to catch sight of the Haunted House’s “escapees”, will find the best seats for doing so in the festive wine and beer garden sponsored by The Good Life, Craft Beer & Wine Cellar.
