Shashank Bengali will just have returned from both Afghanistan and an official Mideast trip with Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel with a perspective to offer on Obama’s second-term international agenda and various pressing issues in the Middle East. He is national security correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, based in Washington, D.C. where he writes about U.S. foreign policy with a special focus on the Middle East and South Asia. A foreign correspondent and editor for the past decade, He has reported from more than 40 countries and covered conflicts, civil unrest and humanitarian crises in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, the Palestinian territories, Somalia, Darfur and many other hotspots.
