Join us in exploring the legacy of one of our towns legendary rosarians, Father George Schoener (1864-1941).
Moving to Santa Barbara in 1917 Father Schoener established his home and nursery at 125 Milpas St. where he hybridized roses. He establised the famous "Avenida de las Rosas" along Milpas St.. By the 1930's Father Schroener was an internationaly known horticulturalist ranked with Luther Burbank. His Hybrid Perpetual rose "Arillaga" is still grown at the AC Postel Rose Garden. He is truly a forgotten hero of local horticulture.

Linda Buzzell-Saltzman is a member of the board of the Santa Barbara Rose Society and co-editor of "Ecotherapy: Healing With Nature in Mind" (Sierra Club Books).
