Washington on the Plaza

Family-friendly musical drama tells the story of the unveiling of The Declaration of Independence – with a surprise visit from “General George Washington,” arriving in his horse and carriage.

Director and Actor Brian Harwell stars as “Colonel John Nixon,” the first person in history to publicly read the freedom-giving Declaration. Up-and-coming actress, 19 year old Katherine Bottoms portrays “Miss Liberty,” Sean O’Shea is the unflappable “Reporter Kent Clark,” and Jenna Scanlon is busy stage-managing as “Mrs. Esther Lane of the Arts & Heritage Society.” The drama is accentuated with musical performances by Opera Singers Deborah Bertling & Emil Dorian Cristescu and a sing-along led by our chorus. A Santa Barbara Pops production, Washington on the Plaza is free and open to the public, and children are encouraged to come and participate. Complimentary souvenir Betsy Ross flags and lollipops will be distributed, and attendees are welcome to stay after the performance to take photos with General Washington and the cast.
