The Basics of Canning
Learn the basics to safely preserve food from your harvest.
When: Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We will go over how to best clean the food and different ways of preserving with the emphasis on canning. In general, the canning method can be used for anything from sauces to pickles however there are small differences in preparation, water bath times and ingredients.
We will be making one jam, pickling one vegetable and canning tomatoes. Each of these requires a slightly different technique which will then allow you to go home and can all sorts of delicious vegetables and fruits. Come prepared for a FULL HANDS ON experience indoors and outdoors on the farm.
