This summer, Steven Peterman, co-founder of the Sketchbook Project, and Sara Peterman, director of the Brooklyn Art Library, are hitting the road to share the stories behind the Sketchbook Project with communities across North America.

The husband-and-wife duo set out for adventure in the Mobile Library―their custom-built bookmobile―along with a selection of 4,500 sketchbooks from the permanent collection. Covering more than 10,000 miles and 32 cities in just four months, they are lucky enough to include Santa Barbara on their itinerary on July 31 (Figueroa Mountain Tasting Room in the Funk Zone) and August 1 (in the plaza between the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and Santa Barbara Public Library).

Visitors are welcome to check out any of the sketchbooks for free, or participate by purchasing a sketchbook for $25
