Description:
Although Real Utopias seems like an oxymoron ( Utopia means “nowhere”), the idea enables us to embody our deepest aspirations for conditions to live flourishing lives while focusing on the real that “takes seriously the problem of the viability of institutions that could move us in that direction.” The value of envisioning “real utopias” was recognized recently by the American Sociological Association Conference with several presentations at its 2012 meeting, encouraged by the work of sociologist Erik Olin Wright. At this Forum, Maurice Bisheff will explore some of the social experiments discussed at the Conference, and welcome any “real utopias” you might wish to present with demonstrable
components capable of shaping the future. Free. Donations always welcome. For more information: http://www.worldculture.org
