Description:
Bike the 10 miles of CicLAvia open streets or experience the event on foot, by riding the Metro between activity hubs. China Town, Boyle Heights, and Downtown LA are just some of the areas that will have their streets closed to cars and open for the 130,000+ participants biking, walking, rollerblading, pushing strollers or just meandering and enjoying the open street space.
Background: Ciclovías (aka Open Streets) started in Bogotá, Colombia over 30 years ago – connecting communities, promoting health, and giving thousands of people a break from car traffic to enjoy the large public spaces that are our streets. In 2010, L.A. started its own biannual CicLAvia. This trip is a chance for community members and civic leaders to start a conversation about Open Streets or Ciclovía type events in Santa Barbara. It includes a tour and Q&A with a CicLAvia organizer and stakeholder(s).
