Tannat Tasting
Eric Laumann, owner-winemaker for Cambiata Winery, is the guest presenter for this evening devoted to the French grape.
When: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: S.B. Maritime Museum, 113 Harbor Wy., #190, Santa Barbara
Cost: $30 - $40
Age limit: 21+
Categories: Food & Drink
Description:
Though originally from the South-West of France, the Tannat is often overshadowed by the popular Bordeaux grape, although it has found some of the limelight since Uruguay's adoption. Tannat wines are often blended to make them more “sip-easy,” as they are prone to be heady and super-tannic. However, Lopez's research indicates that a good producer like Laumann, “one of the Tannat pioneers in California,” can make a pure Tannat wine that appears soft and silky. The event will feature Tannat wines from Uruguay, France, and local Californian vintages.
