Nine years since the start of the US occupation of Iraq
and three months after the announcement of its withdrawal, students of the University of
California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) along with the University of Iraq, Baghdad (UIB) will host a joint video-conference for fellow students, faculty, and community members. The purpose of this event is to give students from differing, and at many times opposing, cultures the opportunity to break through common misconceptions and stereotypes, while building new positive
relationships. This will be facilitated through an open dialogue in which students from both sides will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions concerning each other’s cultures. The March 4th event, A Dialogue for Peace: Live From Baghdad, is the second groundbreaking event of its kind between UCSB and UIB.
